What’s in a Name? ▼
“Telling my story of what I experienced in the workplace.”
What’s in a name? Everything! The first piece of information we have about a person or business is their name. It is often the first thing you will judge. Your name acts as a unique identifier, differentiating you from most other people, and is ultimately the label to your "professional brand" in the workplace.
In the workplace, identification of people by anything other than their names can lead to an unpleasant work environment. The conduct of an employee or employer calling you an unacceptable name in the workplace can be judged as discriminatory, therefore unlawful.
In most companies, HR has moved away from its administrative role and has become a full and strategic partner in the business, and not an “employee champion.” You may need to get free outside legal aid for this type of situation.
