“Telling my story of what I experienced in the workplace.”
I thought I was in control. When trained in corporate gamesmanship, one can develop a cavalier, arrogant, overconfident attitude that sends the message that you’re in control. I found out that I didn’t have a clue what it was to be in control. A series of events in my life brought me to that jolting realization.
I was harassed for a time period on the job. The person followed me around. Time after time for no real reason, the person appeared in my office then shut the door. I was stared down while being in the elevator after two other people got out. I told the Director of Finance about it but he did not seem concerned over the matter. I called the HR Director and told my story. We went back and forth over the story for the record. I requested that the person stays from me. There was no change! The person continued to come in my office around me. I then called the EEOC DC office about the steps in filing a charge. Not long after, the person’s employment ended. I felt in my heart that the person was put up by someone else to rattle me. Reason being, I asked the person why would you keep acting out when told to stay away from me? The person said “no one talked with me or said anything about staying away from you.” I documented everything in detail to shelve it.
